Does the word “transcendence” ring a bell for you? Do you know the meaning of “transcendence”? If you are not native speaker like me, you should look it up on internet to make sure.
I checked it on the internet and I want to share with you what I found it: “transcendence is the act of rising above something to a superior state. The word is often used to describe a spiritual or religious state, or a condition of moving beyond physical needs and realities”.
If you watched the movie “Transcendence” before, the word “transcendence” would be meaningful for you. But If you didn’t watch this movie, add this to your watch-list now and I would totally recommend you to do so.
“Transcendence” is one of the best science fiction movies of recent years.
Transcendence is science fiction film costing $100 million to produce. Johnny Depp, Rebecca Hall, Paul Bettany, Kate Mara, Cillian Murphy, Cole Hauser and Morgan Freeman are acting in this film. It was directed by Wally Pfister in 2014.
This movie asks the question, “Will an artificial super-intelligence be created soon? If it is, are they able to upload a consciousness into a computer? ”
In the movie, In a powerful opening scene, Johnny Depp declares that an artificial brain will soon be built whose “[cognitive] power will be greater than the collective intelligence of every person born in the history of the world.” Asked by an appalled audience member, “So you want to make a god? Your god?”, he replies candidly, “Isn’t that what humans have always done?” These conversation is reflection of the film.
Transcendence poses more ominously a question that Her raised in passing, and that I hope future technologically themed sci-fi will pick up on: If your hyper-connected virtual lover can observe you at every minute—as you sleep, as you drive, as you dine alone in a room with their disembodied image hovering on a screen—what’s the difference between devotion and surveillance? There was a hint of psychological horror in the creepy late scenes between the disenchanted Evelyn and the increasingly controlling Will that made me think Wally Pfister may have a really good science-fiction thriller in him. This isn’t that movie—it’s more of an imperfect facsimile, which as Transcendenceshows can take you pretty far but not the whole way. (1)
By the end of the movie, you notice that you have more questions in your mind about Artificial Intelligence: “Is this machine evil?” “Can scientists really upload the human brain into a computer?” “If they can, does this computer have conscious and have ability to think?” when you try to find the answers of these questions,on the internet, you will be surprised how you have never heard so far “Human Brain Project” and “Blue Brain Project” (of course if you haven’t heard it before).
Professor Henry Markram who directs both the Blue Brain Project and the Human Brain Project at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) in Switzerland have been uploading human brain into computer by IMB Supercomputers (Blue Gene).
Can you guess the cost of one of these projects? Total cost of the Human Brain Project is estimated at EUR 1.19 billion. European Commission and private organizations are providing these costs..
If Henry Markram and his team succeed in uploading human brain into computer, Be Prepared for Transcendence..
