Did you know that Westworld, a new television series from HBO, based on the Westworld (film) dated in 1973?

In this movie, Yul Brynner starred as an android in a futuristic Western-themed amusement park, and Richard Benjamin and James Brolin as guests of the park.

Westworld (1973) was written and directed by novelist Michael Crichton.

The core concept of the two Westworlds is broadly the same: A futuristic theme park invites its obscenely wealthy guests to live out all their fantasies in an old west-style theme park populated by incredibly lifelike robots. In practice, these trips generally descend into hedonism, as human guests indulge their every whim by shooting or seducing any robots they want to kill or have sex with. Of course—like any good story about humans hubristically playing God—there are also ominous signs that the robots may eventually lash back at their creators/victimizers. (Scott Meslow)

Screenwriters: “If you’re trying to figure out how to make an old story seem relevant again, the new Westworld should be both your textbook and your bible.”
